—Bureau Chief, State Agency

Client Problem: The California public budget process was inefficient, time consuming, and difficult to manage. The DOF had, for over 30 years, manually collected data from more than 200 state agencies and used spreadsheets to consolidate the information. To print the budget all data had to be rekeyed, manually, into a publishing program. The process was inefficient, costly, and prone to errors.
Natoma Solution: The Natoma-developed the eBudget system provides the public unprecedented access to budget-related data in an easy to navigate Web site. The process now requires State agencies to submit budget information (including revisions) electronically into the eBudget system. Budget information is now fully electronic, with no manual data entry and online public access to budget data. The probability for human error is greatly reduced, thus saving time and improving the overall budget process.
Results: Implementation of the eBudget system greatly improved the budget submission and revision processes of the State. The award winning system now allows electronic management of the fifth largest economy in the world, increases transparency, and significantly reduces costs.
