Client Problem: Batch file sharing with the State of California and the Federal Social Security Administration would take up to six weeks to enable verification of Medi-Cal insurance eligibility for California citizens.
Natoma Solution: Natoma designed, built, and implemented the first service-oriented architecture (SOA), shared service production system in California state government that provides secure, real-time access to the Federal Social Security Administration database using orchestrated Web services in CICS and .NET to initiate queries and receive data responses from the Federal database systems.
Results: The Natoma developed SOA, real-time solution significantly improved the Medi-Cal insurance eligibility timeframe from six weeks to less than six seconds. The improved speed of insurance eligibility verification has resulted in substantial costs savings to the State of California and better service to California citizens.
